Kristian Campbell’s much awaited debut at first base had been scheduled for Sunday. It was pushed back by the play of Abraham Toro. Now, it appears to have been postponed indefinitely. On Monday, the Red Sox activated Romy Gonzalez (left quad contusion) from the injured list and put him at first base against Angels lefty Tyler Anderson while having Toro — a switch-hitter — play third base, with rookie Marcelo Mayer getting the night off.

Brennan Bernardino made 112 appearances for the Red Sox from 2023-24 and pitched in 25 of the first 58 games this season. The 33-year-old lefthander recently appeared seven times in a span of 10 games and allowed one run on two hits over 6 innings while throwing 59 of 93 pitches for strikes. How does a pitcher do that? “For me, it’s not wasting pitches,” Bernardino said.

ATLANTA — Justin Slaten tried to pitch through a sore arm as a rookie last season, which only made it worse and he landed on the injured list for nearly two months. So when the 27-year-old Red Sox righthander felt some discomfort in his shoulder after pitching an inning against the Brewers on Wednesday, he alerted the team. That his fastball velocity dipped was another sign.

ATLANTA — The Red Sox spoke hopefully about building some momentum after a satisfying victory against the Atlanta Braves on Friday night. “Maybe this will be the game that gets us going,” shortstop Trevor Story said. Or not. Righthander Spencer Schwellenbach dominated the Sox over 6⅓ innings on Saturday afternoon as the Braves cruised to a 5-0 victory before a sellout crowd of 41,444 at Truist Park. The 28-32 Sox have lost six of seven and 12 of their last 18 games.

ATLANTA — Carlos Narváez started 65 minor league games as a Yankees prospect in 2023. That’s his career high. Saturday marked the 41st game he’s started for the Red Sox and the season has four months remaining. How’s the 26-year-old catcher holding up? “Really good,” Narváez said. “I always feel like I’m stronger in the second half of the season. But I feel fine.”Narváez is performing at a high level defensively and through Friday had hit .286 with an .814 OPS.

Sox today: Duran LF, Devers DH, Bregman 3B, Abreu RF, Story SS, Sogard 1B, Hamilton 2B, Narváez C, Rafaela CF, and Giolito RHP (2:10 ET)

Just a reminder that I'm posting my #RedSox content here now: @peteabeglobe.bsky.social 2025 coverage started today with photos and videos from the Fort Myers. Happy to take Sox questions there, too. Thanks.

And have been for a while now. Mostly links to our stories, etc. Getting out of the in-game update business unless it’s something unusual.
