PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (SNN) — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in Port Charlotte. The crash happened at 7:09 p.m. Tuesday night in the area of State Road 776 and Sailors Way. According to troopers, the 42-year-old man was traveling south on SR-766, approaching Sailors when he veered off the roadway, entered the shoulder and collided with a light pole. The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased on the scene.

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (SNN) — More than 2,500 local kids are staying engaged with learning this summer through the Manatee County Public Library System’s "Summer Reading Program.”The Manatee County Government said the program saw an increase of 25% over the past year.

NORTH PORT, Fla. (SNN) — The North Port City Commission voted 4-1 Tuesday to move ahead with the public-private partnership pathway, or P3, for Warm Mineral Springs, according to a news release. In response to public feedback provided during multiple commission meetings, workshops and community surveys, conceptual plans for the P3 have been scaled back from high-intensity development, as originally proposed, to medium-intensity development.
