Don’t get me wrong. I love going to concerts at Red Rocks! I love it so much, I even have a secret parking strategy. And no, I’m not telling you what it is. Who needs the competition? But I am willing to share some basic intel about how to navigate the second best-attended concert venue in the U.S. (Screw you, Madison Square Garden! And the Knicks, too!)  Clearly, Red Rocks is a world-beater. It’s just the concertgoers who have challenges. Finding your peeps in seating meant just for you.

I'm tired of hearing how bad the Rockies are this year. Because they were also bad last year. And the year before that. So their badness is old news, even when it reaches historic heights, as it did a few nights ago, when they lost to the San Diego Padres 21-0. There were 38,000 people at Coors Field that night. Two fascinating sons, growing and mutating like a science project: They’re alive! Alive! And yet, they were part of the problem. My boys really were growing apart from me. At nine or 10 they began developing their own weird pack of friends, sharing interests I didn’t understand. That’s all as it should be. But it hurt.

We drove 1,700 miles west to realize a dream: My wife and I wanted to live where we chose (Colorado), rather than at a random location (Pennsylvania) near a random office. No problem with the getaway: After 20 years, I’d been laid off from a magazine job, and the severance package bankrolled us out the door. At age 60, I wasn’t done working, but now employment would have to follow me around rather than vice versa. Ski country, ho!But a disturbing pattern emerged as we met our new neighbors.
