A former boarding school housemaster and scout leader has admitted to being a paedophile during a cross-examination at his trial. Richard Burrows is on trial over allegations that he abused boys between the late 1960s and mid-1990s, while working at a school in Cheshire and later as a scout leader in the West Midlands. Mr Burrows has previously admitted 43 out of 105 charges, the prosecution has not offered evidence for eight counts and he denied the remaining 54.

A burst water main has flooded a housing estate and forced the closure of several local schools. More than ten homes on Gerrard Street in Kirkholt, Rochdale have been affected. United Utilities has turned off the water supply and sent engineers to make repairs. Janet Brooks said the flooding was "just horrendous" and added that the street had suffered repeated problems with burst pipes in the last five years.

Debbie Leitch, 24, who had Down's syndrome, was found dead at her home in South Shore, Blackpool, on 29 August 2019. Elaine Clarke, who was her daughter’s full-time paid carer, was jailed in 2022 for gross negligence manslaughter.

Bamber Bridge fans helped raise money during Saturday's game against Mickleover [BBC]A cash-strapped football club’s fans have raised about £6,000 in 24 hours after bosses appealed for help to secure its future. Bamber Bridge FC, based near Preston, set up an online fundraiser with a £30,000 target, after saying sponsorships were dropping and attendances falling. The club said it was in a "tight spot" and appealed for donations to “help cover staff costs and to balance the books”.
