Bassetlaw District Council alongside the Worksop and Retford branches of the Royal British Legion have come together to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE day. Dignitaries, veterans and other invited guests gathered at Retford Town Hall on Thursday 8th May to mark 80 years since Victory in Europe Day, when the Second World War came to an end in Europe in 1945 as we both celebrate victory and also remember those who lost their lives.

Move More in May will end on a high with a celebration event in Retford recognising a month of movement from Bassetlaw residents. “On Friday, Nottinghamshire police concluded their crime scene investigation at the site of the explosion on John Street, Worksop, but the wider investigation continues. It means the site has now been handed over to Bassetlaw District Council’s Building Control Team. “The site cordon has now been significantly reduced and will remain in place for the next few days to cover the final demolition and clearance works to the properties at 24, 26 and 28 John Street.

A Retford woman has been ordered to pay a total of £748 by Mansfield Magistrates Court for failing to ensure her rubbish was properly disposed of, less than a month after pleading guilty to a similar offence. Environmental Health Officers from Bassetlaw District Council discovered waste including a builder’s bag of rubbish and cardboard boxes dumped along Bracken Lane in Retford on 31st July 2024.
