CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A woman is in custody after a Friday morning stabbing in Charleston. Police said the altercation occurred at a residence in the 1200 block of Griffin Drive at around 4:30 a.m.The victim suffered a non-life-threatening stab wound to the leg. Police described the victim as uncooperative. The alleged stabber was charged with malicious wounding. An investigation is continuing.

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — By a vote of four to two, Clarksburg City Council has passed the first reading of an ordinance that would ban camping in public areas and unauthorized private property. If adopted, the first violation of Article 1120 would be a written warning, a second violation would come with a $200 fine, and a third violation within 12 months would increase the fine to $500.

WHEELING, W.Va. — A federal magistrate judge has ordered former Buckhannon mayor and city councilman David McCauley to remain in custody until his trial in a federal child pornography case. U.S. Magistrate Judge James Mazzone noted that McCauley, 66, did not have a criminal history but determined he would be a flight risk and at the residence he planned to stay at he would have access to children.

The Thundering Herd opened an 18-0 lead over Georgia State after its first three drives in Thursday night’s Sun Belt Conference game at Joan E. Edwards Stadium. The home team watched the Panthers close to within 18-10, then got a TD in the closing seconds before the half for a 25-10 advantage. Georgia State would battle back behind backup quarterback Zach Gibson.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency scored a significant victory this week when the U.S. Supreme Court refused a request for an emergency order blocking the agency’s plans for curbing emissions from coal and natural gas power plants from going into effect. A number of energy states, including West Virginia, are challenging the rule that was issued last April.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — In a match with an economy of scoring opportunities, No. 19 Texas Tech converted a penalty kick and saved another in a 1-0 win over West Virginia. With the victory, the Red Raiders (12-2-2, 7-0-2 Big 12) remained tied atop the Big 12 Conference standings with TCU (23 points each). Two regular-season matches remain for the Mountaineers (10-4-2, 6-2-1 Big 12) and they trail the Red Raiders and the Horned Frogs by four points. The lone goal of the match came in the 41st minute.
