After a 61-minute rain delay and a five-run outburst in their next half inning, the Golden Bears went on to score ten unanswered runs to win the school’s second state softball championship, 10-2 in 6 innings.

The White Falcons defeated Greenbrier West, 11-6 in an elimination game. Wahama (29-7) will face Pendleton County (31-2) in the final, needing to defeat the Wildcats twice to win their fourth state championship in the last five seasons. Fiona VanMatre went 4-for-4 for the White Falcons and she reached base in all five plate appearances.

    SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A pair of shutout victories have Oak Glen on the verge of the Class AA state championship. After defeating Petersburg, 1-0 in the opening game of the day, the Golden Bears knocked off Logan, 3-0 in the winners bracket final. OGHS (29-10) will face the winner of the elimination game between Logan and Petersburg in the championship round Thursday at 2:30 p.m. The Bears need just one victory in two games to claim the program’s first state title since 1998.

    (Photo gallery by Teran Malone)SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Petersburg scored eight runs in the fifth inning to extend their season with a 12-2, 5-inning win over Liberty Raleigh in a Class AA elimination game. Ella Markwell’s three-run home run sparked the fifth inning uprising for the Vikings, giving PHS a 7-2 lead. Petersburg (22-11) tacked on five more runs to put the run rule in effect. Miley Tingler led PHS with three hits. Gracie Carpenter went the distance in the circle for the Vikings.

The White Falcons (28-6) trailed 3-0 in the first inning and 4-3 in the sixth before scoring the final four runs of the game to advance in the winners bracket. Trailing 4-3 in the top of the sixth inning, Wahama took their first lead of the game with a two-run triple from Kalyn Christian.
