The teenager is still too young to drink, drive or vote but that has not stopped him taking note of what both parties are offering the next generation. Experts in the aviation industry are calling for more thorough investigations into recreational aircraft accidents following a spate of fatal crashes across Australia last year. Twenty-seven people died in 20 light aircraft crashes in 2024, including those flying in home-built planes, crop dusters, and helicopters. Aviation consultant and training officer Lorraine MacGillivray said it was 27 too many. "We need answers, and we need to not be losing young lives like this anymore," she said.

Kath and Wayne Bordieri have felt their home quiver and rock hundreds of times from underground blasting by a nearby mine outside of Bendigo in Central Victoria. They can point out the damage they blame entirely on Fosterville Gold Mine (FGM) — the biggest gold mine in Victoria, which employs more than 800 people. Every architrave above the doors inside their home has cracks, brickwork has damage and a bathroom vanity also cracked as their home shook last year.

Almost two years to the day after floods destroyed her house, Tracie Kyne is finally back home, but it has not been without a fight. Ms Kyne's home was one of around 900 properties destroyed when fast-moving waters engulfed the regional Victorian town of Rochester in October 2022. After months of negotiation, planning and persistence, Ms Kyne received a settlement offer from her insurance company that was more than 600 per cent higher than their original offer.

A fixer-upper project that Melbourne couple Justin Lewis and Lisa Colandro embarked upon 10 years ago has taken the Australian dream to a new level. When Justin noticed the for sale advertisement for Nimmitabel in The Age newspaper it was only the second time in 140 years that the 19th-century mansion had gone on the market. The double-storey property is a landmark in the otherwise ordinary country town of Inglewood, 45 kilometres north-west of Bendigo.
