There is no animal vaccine registered for use in Australia to protect pigs from the mosquito-borne disease. A regional Victorian tomato and zucchini farmer has quit the industry in protest over farmgate prices. He said the discrepancy between what farmers are paid and what the product retails for is pushing people out of the industry. The new Food and Grocery Code of Conduct, aimed to restore the power imbalance faced by farmers from supermarkets, comes into effect in April.
