Edwin Diaz is tough to rank here as he’s not the closer for the time being and likely won’t see a ton of holds, but at the same time, he still needs to be rostered everywhere. By default, he’s the top non-closer reliever to roster right now, as he should eventually get things turned around and get back on track. Now’s a great time to buy low if you can.

About 3 minutes reading time. MIAMI (AP) — Max Fried’s start to the season has been frustrating. The Atlanta Braves left-hander didn’t make it out of the first inning of his season debut against Philadelphia. In his second start, Fried needed 37 pitches to get out of a six-run first. Fried bounced back strongly Friday night, tossing six innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts in an 8-1 win over the Miami Marlins. The 30-year-old left hander said he felt more like himself in the outing.

Ryan Helsley has pitched fairly well this season, and while not being as dominant as last year, I don’t have many concerns with Helsley outside of the fact that, well, what really is his role here? Over the past month, Giovanny Gallegos and Helsley have pitched 13.1 and 13.2 innings respectably, with Gallegos posting a 3.38 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 9 K’s while Helsley has been better, with a 2.63 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 16 K’s.

Checking in on Félix Bautista in his second full MLB season, and the one thing that jumps off the page is the increased walk rate, going from 9.1% last season to 16.3% currently. I’d like to see that get back to under 10% but I’m also not surprised by this development giving that hitters now have a book on him and realize he has no command of his splitter (as is the case with most pitchers who throw a splitter).

It looks like it will indeed be David Robertson as the Mets’ primary closer moving forward, and the veteran already has picked up the team’s only save this season. It does look like there could be some matchup-based opportunities though for others such as Drew Smith, Brooks Raley and Adam Ottavino here, so temper expectations, but Robertson could be a difference maker as long as the Mets believe in him and don’t go out making a trade for an established closer.
