Ryne Stanek has had some hiccups along the way but for the most part has put together a respectable season so far, and has been really good as of late. He still has a plus fastball at 98.5 MPH with 18.3 iVB and can get whiffs with his secondaries, so he should be a steady holds source. Shelby Miller returned from the IL this week and already has a hold to his credit. With Jason Foley having an up and down May, there’s an outside shot at Miller seeing some more save chances as we move forward.

Jeremiah Estrada now has 18 Ks over his past 6.2 IP (allowing just one hit and no walks) which is just comical. When these types of breakouts happen, they do tend to happen fast and out of nowhere, so act fast as this is probably the last chance you’ll get to jump on the Estrada bandwagon before he is rostered in all holds leagues. Ryan Walker has followed up his great April with an even better May, allowing just two ERs this month while posting an elite 18/1 K/BB rate.

Edwin Diaz is tough to rank here as he’s not the closer for the time being and likely won’t see a ton of holds, but at the same time, he still needs to be rostered everywhere. By default, he’s the top non-closer reliever to roster right now, as he should eventually get things turned around and get back on track. Now’s a great time to buy low if you can.

The third and final relief pitcher rankings for today are cumulative saves plus holds (SV+HLD) list. While the opportunity for these counting stats is certainly taken into consideration, it’s typically hard to gauge with bullpen usage being so fluid throughout the season for most teams. The bulk of the rankings are derived from bat-missing ability and pure stuff, expected outcome stats, and a little bit of HOTEL mixed in. Also, keep in mind that holds are much more volatile and harder to predict.
