You cannot knock the San Diego Padres' front office staff for trying. Just midway through April, the Friars have made a second trade already in the 2025 regular season. As a way to reinforce the team's outfield depth, which is being crushed by injuries to Jackson Merrill and Brandon Lockridge, the Padres are welcoming back a familiar face. San Diego traded away catcher Brett Sullivan to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for outfielder Bryce Johnson, who was with the Padres during the 2024 season.
