Polar-end 3,5-diarylisoxazole liquid crystals with SmA and highly ordered CrE mesophases†
Polar-end 3,5-diarylisoxazol liquid crystals (ILCs) with nitro, amine and bromine polar terminal groups were thermally and structurally characterized. The nitro and bromo terminated compounds exhibited the highly ordered CrE mesophase below the conventional SmA.

Tannins are phenolic compounds that provide benefits to ruminants due to their protein-binding affinities and antioxidant properties. However, tannins may also have negative orosensorial and postingestive effects that decrease feed intake. This study explored how lambs trade-off the ingestion of crude protein (CP) with the ingestion of potentially beneficial and toxic condensed and hydrolyzable tannins, and the ensuing impacts on diet digestibility, animal performance, and blood parameters.

Cardiac transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR-CM) is an underrecognized cause of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction in older adults, affecting approximately 120 000 US adults.1 It is caused by the misfolding of transthyretin, which produces insoluble amyloid fibrils that deposit in interstitial space between cardiac myocytes.2 Deposition of amyloid fibrils triggers cellular injury and reduces muscle compliance, eventually resulting in a restrictive cardiomyopathy.
