Bombay HC fined Ashish Savant ₹5 lakh for a fraudulent caste certificate, invalidating his claim after a complaint during the 2024 elections. MUMBAI: The Bombay high court imposed a ₹5 lakh penalty on Ashish Savant, sarpanch of a Nandgaon village in Raigad, for having a fraudulent caste certificate, which came to light after a complaint filed against him during the gram panchayat elections in 2024. The court said that using a fraudulent caste certificate was a constitutional fraud.

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Wednesday confirmed a ₹9.76-crore penalty imposed on IL&FS Financial Services Ltd (IFIN) for failing to pay stamp duty on time following the demerger of the company. A single judge bench of justice Jitendra Jain dismissed the petition filed by the IL&FS group firm, challenging the levy of penalty over and above the stamp duty of ₹7.07 crore, which was payable towards registration of the court order on the company’s demerger.

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Wednesday quashed a first information report (FIR) against city-based businessman Nishit Patel who was accused of instigating the suicide of his friend. Patel’s wife had loaned ₹25 lakh to the deceased, who owned a shop in Bandra, and Patel was named in the FIR as the suicide note mentioned him pressuring the deceased to pay the interest.

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court has refused to commute the conviction of Ambadas Aaretta from murder to that of culpable homicide not amounting to murder after noting that he had acted in a cruel manner by setting his wife ablaze and preventing others from helping her. “In the present case, after setting Pushpa (the convict’s wife) on fire, the appellant (Aaretta) took the children out of the house and latched the door from outside while Pushpa was still burning inside.
