There was a gap of over 30 years between the first and second Weird Al Yankovic films. The first was UHF in 1989, that he co-wrote with manager Jay Levey, and starred in. While the film was not considered successful in its initial run, it wound up becoming a cult hit in the years that followed. The second film he worked on was in 2022, when he co-wrote his own satirical biopic, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, alongside director Eric Appel.
