Quaker Valley is no stranger to the championship meet. This was the fourth year in a row the Quakers girls’ team featured, while it was the second-straight year for the boys side.     In a battle of the top two teams in Class 5A, top-ranked Penn-Trafford (16-1, 12-0) secured the No. 1 seed in the WPIAL softball playoffs with a 3-2 victory against No. 2 Franklin Regional (13-5, 9-3) in a Section 2 showdown played at Penn-Trafford. Penn-Trafford scored all three runs in the third inning with a two-run home run by Cameron Ponko and a solo shot by Kylie Anthony. Allyson Paulone allowed only four hits and two runs while striking out eight to pick up the victory for the Warriors.

    SCOOP SMITHWoodland HillsRecently: Smith, a junior sprinter from Woodland Hills, competed in his first track meet of the season after dealing with a lingering hamstring issue for most of the spring. In his first competition back, Smith took first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.78 seconds. He did not compete in the 200-meter race. Check this out: Woodland Hills coach Paul Beard said seeing the “hard-working young man” come back and win the 100 with conviction was a great feeling.

    Two of the top football prospects in the WPIAL Class of 2026 made commitments to colleges on Tuesday, and it was two more players who said no to the hometown team. Pine-Richland junior defensive back-wide receiver Jay Timmons decided he will be an Indiana Hoosier, while Peters Township junior defensive end-tight end Lucas Shanafelt chose Stanford. Both had scholarship offers from Pitt and both were considering Pitt.
