Extreme droughts in the Western Pacific region are expected to persist over the next three months. Parts of the Marshall Islands, Guam, Palau, Mariana Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) are now designated under extreme and exceptional drought. These conditions are causing a massive strain on agriculture, water supply, and daily life for residents in FSM's Yap Proper, the atoll of Wotje in the northern Marshall Islands, and other nearby islands in the Marshalls.

Fiji's former prime minister Frank Bainimarama and suspended police commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho will go to trial over corruption allegations. The charge being brought against Bainimarama is attempting to pervert the course of justice and Qiliho is charged with one count of abuse of office. The allegations are related to a complaint filed by the University of the South Pacific (USP) in July 2019 concerning the actions of the regional university's former staff members.

The New Zealand Government’s potential legislation to close the gender pay gap in Aotearoa will not include over a million Pacific Islanders, tangata whenua, people of colour and migrants, Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner Dr Saunoamaali’i Karanina Sumeo says. Last week, the Government committed to launching a reporting system for businesses in a bid to increase workplace equity and transparency for workers.
