Around 22.5 hours after it began, the sit-in inside Kirkland Hall over students’ ability to vote on the VSG BDS amendment ended at approximately 6:34 a.m. CDT. Two students left at various times last night due to medical or family emergencies, while the remaining 25 students forcibly left — with three being arrested — this morning after being woken up and escorted out by VUPD officers.

The Hustler met with Chancellor Daniel Diermeier for the first debrief of the 2023-24 academic year on Oct. 23. He discussed the role of principled neutrality in his statements on the Israel-Hamas War and explained the reasoning behind his emails denouncing US News’ ranking methodology. On a lighter note, he delivered his take on Taylor Swift and expressed excitement for Homecoming weekend and Thanksgiving.

An unattended handgun was found in a Blair School of Music bathroom on the evening of Sept. 2. Upon investigation, the weapon was identified as belonging to a VUPD officer who accidentally left the gun on the toilet seat after using the bathroom. Sophomore Nathaniel York found the gun, and students immediately reported the concern to VUPD. He also shared an image of the gun with other Blair students in a GroupMe, to which students responded with fear and concern.
