Touro Synagogue, the nation's oldest synagogue, has been closed to tours by its New York-based landlord, Congregation Shearith Israel. The Touro Synagogue Foundation, which has conducted tours for nearly 80 years, will continue presentations at the Loeb Visitors Center and Patriots' Park. The closure comes weeks after Congregation Shearith Israel filed a lawsuit against its former tenant, Congregation Jeshuat Israel, alleging misappropriation of funds and removal of religious items.
