EVANSTON, IL — Evanston police shut down traffic along the lakefront Friday afternoon due to a crash between a car and a bicyclist. The crash happened before 4:53 p.m. at Sheridan Road and Keeney Street, according to police. Traffic will be closed in all directions for approximately an hour while authorities investigate. SKOKIE, IL — Extreme heat is expected to bake the Chicagoland starting Saturday, with highs well into the 90s and peak afternoon temperatures of up to 105 degrees likely. The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning in Cook County and a heat advisory in the surrounding areas. Conditions are expected to get dangerously hot and humid from Saturday to Monday, forecasters said.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Highland Park police Thursday clarified the duties of plainclothes officers and officers using unmarked cars in response to community confusion. According to the Highland Park Police Department, confusion sparked when an officer using an unmarked, but official squad car visited a residence in the Sunset Woods area to follow-up on an investigation. The officer was wearing a police vest and was armed.

LAKE FOREST, IL — The Lake Forest Police Department recently inducted it's newest member, a St. Bernard puppy named Winston who will serve as a trained comfort dog. After he finishes training, Winston will accompany Social Worker Lauren Perez on mental-health related calls, which make up a growing portion of the services the department provides. In 2024 alone, the department responded to 538 mental health-related calls for service.
