Former Alderwoman and state Rep. Donna Baringer beat longtime St. Louis Comptroller Darlene Green on Tuesday, ending Green’s nearly 30-year political career. Baringer got 51.5% of the vote, with Green receiving 48.5% in final unofficial results. Turnout was about 25.7%. “Even though we didn’t get the victory this time, we move forward with hope,” Green said in a statement.

A Missouri woman has admitted that she committed a crime when she lied about the status of a chimp named Tonka. Tonia Haddix pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to two counts of perjury and a count of obstruction of justice — all are felonies. Sentencing is currently set for July 16. “Individuals go to court to seek justice,” Assistant United States Attorney Hal Goldsmith said to reporters after Haddix’s plea hearing.
