AVONDALE, Ariz. – Kyle Larson’s hunt for a second career NASCAR Cup Series championship came with a roller coaster of emotions. Early in the race, Larson couldn’t catch his Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron, but a faster pit stop gave him the edge in the middle of the race. He would be passed by Ryan Blaney until a late race caution brought the field back down pit road. Another fast pit stop put him ahead of the other championship contenders.

A strong run for Josh Berry with a glimmer of hope to advance further in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs ends in a mechanical failure and a spin. “It was definitely an issue,” said Berry about his power steering. On Lap 33 during Stage 2, Berry spun shortly after reporting his No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro had lost all power steering. No caution was thrown by NASCAR officials as Berry was able to continue in the race with no damage.

In hopes of winning his way into the Round of 8, Jeb Burton stayed out during a late caution pit cycle among the leaders. When the green flag waved with less than 10 laps to go, Burton had to fight off a hard charging pack filled with fresh tires against his lonesome Chevrolet Camaro. Instead, he missed fighting against the grip in Turn 1 and crashed into the outside wall, collecting Justin Allgaier and Blaine Perkins. “I hate it,” Burton shared after the race with a 34th place result.

According to family members, Jeff Alessi passed away on the eve of October 2, 2023. He was 34 years old. Alessi was a former professional supercross and motocross rider from the United States. He was born in Victorville, California on March 27, 1989. The brother of Mike Alessi started his racing career in Southern California with various local clubs, predominantly with the California Racing Club – commonly referred to as CRC.

LINCOLN, Ala. – Ryan Blaney keeps his friends close and his Talladega victories closer. By just 0.012 seconds, Blaney edged Kevin Harvick at the finish line for his third career win at Talladega Superspeedway. His previous two were gapped by a slim seven thousandths of a second each. “I won it by more than I had the last couple years,’’ Blaney conceded with a laugh. “I don’t really know (what happened), pretty wild last restart, let alone last couple laps.

LINCOLN, Ala. – Kevin Harvick came inches from winning the YellaWood 500 in his final NASCAR Cup Series season. In typical Talladega fashion, it came down to smoke and sparks as he and Ryan Blaney crossed the line. “I just tried to block the lanes,” said Harvick. “I was kind of late blocking (Blaney) there and he got to the outside of us, but it actually worked out OK because (William Byron) was a great pusher, and then it got shuffled again and I had Riley behind me.

LINCOLN, Ala. – Down the backstretch, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. reported running out of fuel, holding up Kyle Busch as the two drifted high up the track. Busch scrapped the wall as the pack drove by the two Chevrolet drivers. A third Camaro of Ross Chastain dove between the pack and the slow duo. He clipped Busch and spun into the outside wall. Heavy damage to the right-front wheel and the steering assembly forced the No. 1 Trackhouse Racing team behind the wall, recording their third DNF of the season.
