AVONDALE, Ariz. – Kyle Larson’s hunt for a second career NASCAR Cup Series championship came with a roller coaster of emotions. Early in the race, Larson couldn’t catch his Hendrick Motorsports teammate William Byron, but a faster pit stop gave him the edge in the middle of the race. He would be passed by Ryan Blaney until a late race caution brought the field back down pit road. Another fast pit stop put him ahead of the other championship contenders.

This 0.333 mile oval built in 1972 will host the West Series for the eighth time. The first race in 1973 was won by Jack McCoy driving a Dodge entered by Ernie Conn.

The 2023 Regular Season champion was forced to rely on the 15 Playoff Points that came with winning that title to advance through the Round of 16 and Round of 12.

This 0.375 mile oval built in 1985 will host the West Series for the 12th time. The first race in 1994 was won by Ron Hornaday, Jr. driving a Chevrolet entered by the late Wayne Spears.

The up and down day started in the first stage for the co-owner of RFK Racing. The No. 6 Castrol Edge Ford Mustang cut the exit of the frontstretch chicane on Lap 16. The owner-driver didn’t come to a complete stop and was thus penalized with a pass-through by officials.

By Jerry Jordan, EditorVeteran Craftsman Truck Series driver, Matt Crafton, has been fined $25,000 for his role in leaving 22-year-old up-and-comer, Nick Sanchez, with a busted face following an altercation at Talladega Superspeedway, this past weekend. Nick was fined $5,000 for his involvement and his father, Rene Sanchez, was suspended through the series championship race at Phoenix Raceway for his role in the incident, as well.

Van Alst’s No. 20 CB Fabricating Chevrolet Silverado was in the middle of the pack when contact between Matt Crafton and Nick Sanchez sparked ‘the big one.’ In the chaos of the melee, the Young’s Motorsports truck was sent head-on into the outside wall in the Tri-Oval.
