A fugitive who slipped out of the hands of border officials after his girlfriend's body was found decomposing in the trunk of a car in Tijuana, Mexico, in May 2022 was taken into custody last month in Orange County on charges including fraud and grand theft, as well as several warrants. Tyler Adams, 51, was last seen crossing the border into the U.S. on June 16, 2022, when his handover to U.S. Customs and Border Protection somehow went awry.

San Diego police confirmed the pilot of a small plane that crashed Wednesday night in a La Jolla neighborhood is dead after an hourslong search for the wreckage. The plane, which SDPD reported lost communication with area towers at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday crashed on a hillside just south of La Jolla Village Drive and Gilman Drive. After an hours-long search, police discovered the wreckage of the small plane using a drone unit at around 3 a.m. Thursday.

The San Diego Police Department said it was searching for signs of a downed plane reported in La Jolla Wednesday night. SDPD said it hasn't found any signs of a plane crash reported near the Torrey Pines gliderport at around 9:30 p.m. The department confirmed police are looking for a single-engine Cessna that lost communication with area towers.
