Being involved in gang violence affects the rest of your life, says a teenager who was previously involved in stabbings, shootings, robberies and supplying drugs. The Homes for Ukraine scheme began in 2022, where residents who had a spare room opened up their homes to Ukrainians, to offer a safe refuge.

He said he felt the impact of that night almost instantly. His mother was scared of him walking to school alone the day after, and took him instead. Even at seven, Maurice knew something was odd when he and other Irish children were not allowed to play in the playground.
