PARK LAYNE, Ohio (WKEF) -- A Clark County man has been arrested and charged with one count of murder following a deadly shooting in Park Layne on Sunday night. The shooting happened at 204 Slayton Drive just after 9 p.m. The Clark County Sheriff's Office says when they arrived at the scene they found a man on the ground in front of a home suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Joseph Burley Edwards from New Carlisle.

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- As the Miami Valley gets ready to turn its eyes to the sky for the total solar eclipse, eye doctors in Dayton are warning you to take precaution. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves between the sun and the earth blocking the light of the sun from reaching earth. On April 8, 2024 parts of Ohio, including much of the Dayton area, will be in the line of totality. Doctors say viewing a partial or total eclipse with your bare eyes can cause permanent damage.

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- Ohio is less than a week away from Election Day and many boards of elections in the Miami Valley are seeing an increase in early voting. Many are pointing to two hot topics for the higher turnout: reproductive rights and recreational marijuana. As of Tuesday night, Montgomery County had already received 17,493 ballots between early in-person and mail-in. Greene County has 7,741 early in-person votes, which is 50% more than in the 2021 General Election.

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- The only person to be convicted in the disappearance of Erica Baker has been arrested in Oregon on assault charges. Christian Gabriel was arrested on October 3, 2023, on an assault charge from August in Roseburg, Oregon. Police tell us he was also cited for possession of methamphetamine. Court officials in Douglas County, Oregon, tell us he pleaded No Contest to the assault charge. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail and a $500 fine. He also has to stay away from his victim.

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) – The former Dayton Public Schools paraprofessional accused of knocking a 3-year-old child to the ground was arraigned Thursday morning. Darrick Sorrells is charged with one count of assault, a 4th degree felony; and two counts of endangering children, a misdemeanor. Sorrells entered a not guilty plea. He was not booked into the Montgomery County jail but does have wear eletronic monitoring and have no contact with the victim.
