1 BACKGROUND The complexity of clinical deterioration in children and infrequency of paediatric resuscitation experience beyond critical care settings makes effective recognition and response challenging for many health professionals (Lambert et al., 2017). These challenges are compounded because children are often cared for outside of specialised paediatric hospitals, where knowledge and experience of staff caring for paediatric patients can be variable (Scott et al., 2018).
