1 Background Mental health nurses (MHNs) face significant stressors in their work that can lead to negative impacts on their psychological wellbeing (Delgado et al. 2021; Foster et al. 2020). Stressors MHNs encounter include challenging behaviours from consumers, exposure to violence, inter-and intra-professional conflict, staffing shortages, poor skill mix, lack of resources and high acuity (Cranage and Foster 2022).

1 BACKGROUND The complexity of clinical deterioration in children and infrequency of paediatric resuscitation experience beyond critical care settings makes effective recognition and response challenging for many health professionals (Lambert et al., 2017). These challenges are compounded because children are often cared for outside of specialised paediatric hospitals, where knowledge and experience of staff caring for paediatric patients can be variable (Scott et al., 2018).

Aim To evaluate the impact of a co-designed intervention to reduce time spent on clinical documentation and increase time for direct patient care. Design A pre- and post-test interventional study with multi-method evaluation, reported according to the Transparent Reporting of Evaluations with Nonrandomised Evaluations Designs guidelines. Methods An intervention to decrease the burden of documentation was co-designed and implemented.
