Just dropped: Celebrated artist Gray Malin is unveiling a captivating new multi-photo series, a witty tribute to the legendary Neiman Marcus flagship store in downtown Dallas. A cornerstone of style and sophistication since it was founded in 1907, the iconic department store is slated to close after 120 years. The series of 12 images is shot in Malin’s famously droll aesthetic, with Texas longhorns poised at the store’s entrance and window shopping.

In 2015, architect Mauricio Lobeira had a choice to make. “I had in my mind that I would either build a house or buy an apartment in Monterrey,” he says of his hometown in the northeastern state of Nuevo León, Mexico. Lobeira, Gonzalo Bueno, and Victoria Rubíes co-founded the architecture and design firm Ten Plus Three, which has offices in Monterrey and Dallas, where Lobeira’s son is a business major at SMU.

Inside the Young Estate in Fort Worth, the library’s centuries-old Georgian molding and pilasters were brought from England in the 1970s. Dunbar Road’s refresh includes a custom gold-leaf chandelier and Gainsborough silk wallpaper. The Italian side tables are 1940s. Custom sofa and chairs are upholstered in Pierre Frey, Pindler, and Designers Guild fabrics.

Architect William “Bill” Curtis sees beauty in the overlooked and unexpected — sheets flapping in the breeze on a clothesline, a weathered metal bucket in front of a window, light raking across empty tables in a restaurant set for lunch. He paints these scenes and others in meticulously detailed watercolors, a hobby he picked up years ago, studying under acclaimed Houston artist Mark Stewart.

The burlwood chairs were purchased from antiquarian Carl Moore’s personal collection and re-covered in Holland & Sherry mohair. Giuffre designed the mantel in Calacatta Viola marble.
