On Thursday, the Yolo Crisis Nursery held a grand opening for its new $9.5 million home in Davis. It was a seven year journey from project conception to opening the doors. On April 30, 1975, the war in Vietnam ended after two decades. On April 30, 2025 at the Mary L. Stephens Library, exactly 50 years later, Davis resident and author Claudia Krich shared her experience of being in Saigon during the liberation. Krich and her husband, Keith were two of approximately a dozen Americans who stayed in Vietnam through the liberation. She was one of the only three women she knew of.

For years, a "free speech area" at the Davis Farmers Market has been set up along the C Street sidewalk in Central Park to allow for citizens to table booths and tents. Local developer and philanthropist Bill Roe died suddenly on Monday morning at the age of 83 after a bicycle accident on Saturday. He was on his way to have lunch with a friend. “While his passing leaves a profound absence, we remain inspired by the life Bill lived and the values he championed,” said the Roe family. “He was successful but remained kind, thoughtful and generous to his last day. Bill was a quiet leader and mentor to many.
City's General Plan update kicks off with joint commission special meeting

County portraits restored for Gibson House exhibit

Having a portrait commissioned of yourself during the late 1800s was a symbol of status and wealth. Even these signs of affluence are not immune to time, however. The past century has led to deterioration of not only the portraits themselves, but the frames that the portraits are housed in as well. This is something Yolo County’s museum curator Sarah Bartlett discovered when putting together the new “Picturing Yolo County” exhibition for the Gibson House.

As over 200 concerned citizens of California’s 4th congressional district sipped on cups of joe and cans of sparkling water, Rep. Mike Thompson (D - St. Helena) was on hand to answer their questions at Davis’ International House on Friday. This event was a part of Thompson’s “Coffee with our Congressman” series, which has also recently taken place in Vacaville and Sonoma. The congressman took a wide variety of questions for over an hour and a half.
