An aircraft has crashed near Darwin in the Northern Territory during a biennial international military exercise. The NT News is reporting the aircraft came down in the Douglas Daly region and was part of the Royal Australian Airforce’s Pitch Black exercise, which is running until August 2 this year. Pitch Black, which brings together 20 participating nations, operates between the RAAF bases in Darwin and Tindal in the NT as well as Amberley, near Ipswich in Queensland.

The Australian Federal Police has arrested two people in Sydney as part of an international investigation into an alleged sex trafficking ring that allegedly recruited women from Indonesia to work in brothels across NSW, including a 17-year-old girl. AFP Commander Kate Ferry said warrants had been executed in Australia and Indonesia as authorities swooped on the alleged operation that brought women from Jakarta to Australia on tourist visas.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance after the bodies of two Australians were found in the Philippines. It is believed the couple were found at a hotel in the province of Cavite south of the capital of Manila. A DFAT spokesperson said they were unable to provide further details due to the department’s privacy obligations.
