As covered in our previous client alert, on 15 October 2024, Singapore’s parliament passed an amendment to the Elections (Integrity of Online Advertising) Bill, prohibiting the publication, boosting, sharing and reposting of deepfake content depicting election candidates. This bill has come into effect as of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s Writ of Election issued on 15 April 2025, ahead of Singapore’s upcoming general election on 3 May 2025 (“Polling Day“).

The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) announced that it had accepted in March two undertakings from organizations investigated for data breaches stemming from ransomware attacks and zero-day vulnerabilities, affecting the personal data of over 400,000 individuals. In September 2024, the PDPC became aware of a data breach incident involving unauthorized access to a server belonging to Yamato Transport (S) Pte. Ltd.
