For the first time in its 17–year existence, the government’s Wealth Partaking Scheme – which distributes cash handouts to residents yearly – has been amended. Following public outcry that the government should use public funds more wisely and allocate them only to those residing full time in Macau, the Executive Council (ExCo) yesterday presented a new version of the scheme that includes a provision excluding those who did not stay in Macau for at least 183 days in 2024.

The Orient Foundation (FO) announced in a press statement that after five months of closure for consolidation and exterior repair work, Casa Garden, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is reopening its doors to the public. The statement noted that the reopening of Casa Garden coincides with celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of Macau’s Historic Centre being listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The president of the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS), Hon Wai, said the government proposes to standardize the services and operations of nurseries in Macau to address the declining birthrate, during the plenary meeting of the Women and Children Affairs Committee held on Monday. “The next phase of the nursery services development plan will be implemented, covering a broad range of nursery services and including the standardization of nursery and education services,” Hon Wai stated.
