The high school softball season is underway in Wisconsin with every team's goal to reach the WIAA state tournament at Goodman Diamond in Madison. Regional play begins May 27, with the state tournament beginning June 11. Last season, Kaukauna was the lone area team to reach state. The Ghosts fell in the Division 1 semifinals, snapping a 108-game win streak. Here is a look at the top 41 players from the Post-Crescent coverage area this season.

NEENAH − Jacob Herm entered high school with lofty expectations with the top goal to be a four-time state wrestling champion. The senior was close to meeting that incredible feat, finishing second his freshman and sophomore seasons before winning state titles his junior and senior seasons. His second title, won at 165 pounds in Division 1 this season, punctuated a tremendous season in which he finished 53-1.

MADISON − The Freedom boys basketball team didn't play a perfect game Thursday at the Kohl Center − it only seemed that way. The Irish (28-1) routed Elk Mound, 66-32, in a WIAA Division 3 state semifinal to earn a berth in Saturday's championship game. Top-seeded Freedom will face second-seeded Milwaukee Academy of Science at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Kohl Center. The Novas beat Lake Mills, 65-61, in the other semifinal.
