That included Carbondale’s Trent Goscha Memorial baseball tournament, which seems to bring winter’s last gasps every year now. Roaring Fork walked away victorious from its home baseball tournament over the weekend, sweeping through with three straight wins.

    Aspen’s Bridger Gile is coming into this offseason feeling like he’s moving forward, instead of playing catchup. Gile completed the 2024-25 Alpine season on Tuesday with a slalom race in Vail in the U.S. Alpine Championships. But the real cap to his season came on Monday when he repeated with a second place in the national giant slalom championships — finishing behind U.S. Ski Team teammate River Radamus for the second year in a row.

    In what could be an annual tradition, it appears that the 2025 edition of the Trent Goscha Memorial Tournament will feature baseball with a side of snowflakes. The Roaring Fork High School baseball invitational in remembrance of a former student and longtime follower of the team returns this weekend — along with a chance of snow on Thursday and Friday, as it has in recent iterations. RFHS head coach Marty Madsen agreed that it’s becoming part of the character of the tournament.

    The FIS World Championship title remains elusive for Aspen’s Alex Ferreira, but he’s coming home from Switzerland with more hardware nonetheless. On Sunday, in Engadin, Switzerland, Ferreira took third place in the freeski halfpipe despite scoring a 92.50 as three Americans landed in the top five. The 30-year-old was in second place after the first set of runs, with a classic Ferreira showing of 1,620 rotations in both directions in his five hits.

    The Aspen Junior Gents rugby team is off to a hot start in its state championship defense season, going 2-0 in the Colorado Tier II league through its first two games. In their home opener at Willits Field on Saturday, the Jr. Gents found the try zone early and often in a 48-19 win over the Castle Rock Pirates despite dressing only 14 players  — playing a man down the whole game and not having any subs. “We’re feeling good.
