A pair of philanthropic donors have agreed to contribute $30,000 to the Press-Telegram's Send-a-Kid-to-Camp fund so more kids can enjoy a week at a mountain camp this summer. That is a very generous donation - but there is a condition attached to the contribution. The donors - Frank Newell, former chair of the Long Beach Community Foundation, and his wife, Margie - said their donation is contingent on Press-Telegram readers contributing an additional $30,000 to match their $30,000 donation.

Here's a question for you today:What do Julie Andrews, Prince, Pink Floyd and the Broadway cast of the musical "Rent" have in common? Answer: They all sang hit songs that made it onto the final list of 24 tunes for the inaugural "Sing-a-Long Beach" event, which will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. May 31 at the city's Recreation Park Bandshell, at Seventh Street and Park Avenue. And it's free to attend.

Carlos couldn’t believe his eyes when he looked up at the sky on his first night at Camp Oakes, high in the San Bernardino Mountains. “Look at all those stars,” the 8-year-old exclaimed. “I never see that many stars when I’m at home. Where did they come from?”Then Carlos asked a great question, one that has fascinated scientists, philosophers, songwriters and dreamers for years: How many stars are there in the sky?
