Southern Fish & Game councils say they broadly welcome proposed improvements to the organisation’s operations, signalled by the government yesterday. Hunting and Fishing Minister James Meager has announced proposed new legislation governing Fish & Game, aimed at streamlining and compartmentalising the roles of the national body and its 12 regional councils. He said it would "modernise and strengthen" the organisation.

Goldfields Cavalcade organiser Terry Davis told the Otago Daily Times on Wednesday this year’s host town of Twizel had raised a record sum of more than $70,000 for local community groups.

Twizel was the host town for the Goldfields Cavalcade in February this year, and event organiser Terry Davis said the host committee was now ready to disburse proceeds from the event finale.

Anticipated record dairy payouts are helping Clutha’s economy buck the national downward trend, new figures show. Regional development organisation Clutha Development has released the latest economic results for the district, which show a strong agricultural sector bolstering modest overall growth. Infometrics’ Quarterly Economic Monitor showed economic activity in Clutha rising by 0.5% in the year to March 2025, outperforming the national economy, which shrank by 1.1%.
