A Bexhill woman has vowed to carry on the charity work her daughter started following her death in Thailand. Rebecca Turner, 36, died in a hotel room in Bangkok after she and her boyfriend unwittingly consumed a lethal cocktail of drugs, thinking it was a line of cocaine, her mum Anita said. But it was later revealed that the powder they had bought contained a lethal combination of nine drugs, including painkillers, sleeping pills and anxiety medications, according to Rebecca’s devastated mum.

Campaigners fighting to keep Bexhill main post office open say they have scored a victory after it was announced it will stay open. In November 2024 Post Office Ltd said it was considering closing 115 directly-run Post Office branches, including the branch in Devonshire Square. Bexhill MP Dr Kieran Mullan launched a petition against the proposals, which was signed by almost 4,200 people.

A woman has been sentenced for criminal damage and threatening behaviour following an incident at a St Leonards restaurant. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Martina Lee, 39, of Dower Walk, Gossops Green, Crawley was ordered to pay compensation and fines. The incident happened at La Bella Vista, Grand Parade, St Leonards on October 12, 2024, the CPS said. Lee was sentenced on Friday, May 23.

Two Sussex police officers have been acquitted by a jury of assault in connection to their use of force on an elderly disabled man at a St Leonards care home, the force has said. Police said PC Stephen Smith, 50, and PC Rachel Comotto, 34, were charged with assaulting Donald Burgess, 93, in June 2022.

Hundreds of households in parts of Hastings are suffering from a loss of water supply, the town’s MP has said. Hastings MP, Helena Dollimore said she believes ‘around 300 households’ are affected in Ore. She said residents have contacted her, with some saying the loss of water supply has been a ‘regular occurrence’ over the last three to four weeks.
