Bank of England policymaker Alan Taylor said he voted for a larger half-point base rate cut last week because the UK faces a “perilous” threat from US President Donald Trump’s trade war. Taylor said global trade uncertainty and the possibility that cheap Chinese goods flood European markets after being redirected from the US may impact UK inflation. “The international dimension for me is quite perilous,” said the economist at a conference hosted by King’s College London yesterday evening.

You might think the headline’s a bit clickbaity, but honestly, I’ve been pondering this question for a good few months now. I was catching up with some friends recently, and when the topic of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) came up, they both had a similar viewpoint: companies should simply hire the best person for the job, end of discussion. It shouldn’t matter if they’re male, female, Black, white, or anything else – just the most qualified individual. In theory, they have a point, don’t they?

Retirees target pension pot would only last for 11 years according to a report by Retirement Review. The report showed the average personal target pension pot for retirement is £253,701.40 which would likely provide a target income of £30,050.20 for just 11 yearsAdditionally, the average age respondents expected to retire was 65.7 years. A third of consumers are still unsure of both their current pension pot size and their target savings for retirement.
