A seafront amusement park has closed after two decades. Leisure Island Fun Park on Canvey Island, Essex, announced its closure on social media but did not give reasons. It had more than 20 rides and attractions at its site on Eastern Esplanade, but these had all now been cleared, it said. Its owners had previously announced the park was to undergo a refurbishment, ready to open in time for Easter this year.

A lifeboat has been left temporarily "out of service" after high tides during Storm Darragh destroyed its launch ramp. Dan Hurd, coxswain of Hemsby Lifeboat, said parts of Norfolk's coastline had suffered further erosion at the weekend. More than 25 homes at Hemsby, near Great Yarmouth, have been lost to the sea in the past decade. Mr Hurd said he feared a high tide on Sunday night would cause further damage. Great Yarmouth Borough Council has said it was "monitoring the situation".

Sir David Amess, a long-serving Conservative MP for Southend West, was fatally stabbed in Leigh-on-Sea by an IS fanatic during a constituency surgery on 15 October 2021. A memorial service was held at St Peter's Catholic Church, close to where he was killed.
