Middlesbrough have appointed a new head coach, write PA. Rob Edwards has been appointed as Middlesbrough’s new head coach on a three-year deal. The 42-year-old, who left Luton by mutual consent in January, replaces former Manchester United and England midfielder Michael Carrick, whose reign was brought to a close earlier this month after the Teessiders missed out on the Sky Bet Championship play-offs.

Middlesbrough closing in on a new manager, write PA. Middlesbrough are close to confirming former Luton manager Rob Edwards as their new head coach, the PA news agency understands. Boro are in advanced talks with 42-year-old Edwards to replace Michael Carrick, who was sacked after the club missed out on a Championship play-off place last month. Edwards lifted Luton into the Premier League in 2023 and will be challenged to repeat the feat in the North East by Boro chairman Steve Gibson.

The format for next season’s Carabao Cup has been confirmed by the EFL, with newly promoted Burnley and their rivals learning their schedule for the domestic competition. Following their promotion back to the Premier League, the Clarets will enter the tournament in the second round, while those top flight clubs who are taking part in European competition will be included in the draw from the third round onwards.
