The Shields Gazette
The Shields Gazette, founded in 1849, is a daily newspaper that prides itself on being the oldest evening newspaper outside of London in the UK. Initially launched as a weekly publication called the North and South Shields Gazette and Northumberland and Durham Advertiser, it transitioned to a daily evening format following the repeal of Stamp Duty in 1855. Eventually, it adopted the name Shields Gazette and Shipping Telegraph.
