If you're looking for somewhere to take the kids that's a bit different, Yorkshire boasts a wide range of tourist sights and delights, including an underground cave that is home to a waterfall twice the height of Niagara Falls. Gaping Gill cave, located in the Yorkshire Dales over towards Lancaster, is one of Britain's largest underground chambers and a well known landmark, although it remains closed to the public for most of the year. It's open for a one-week period in May, from 24th-30th.

Gaping Gill cave, nestled in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, is one of Britain's largest underground chambers and a renowned landmark, although it remains closed to the public for most of the year. The cavernous hole is so deep that it takes a full minute to reach its floor, and its nave could comfortably accommodate York Minster.
