ATLANTA – A federal appeals court on Friday found that a Louisiana law was “plainly unconstitutional” for requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every classroom of the state’s public schools and universities, and agreed with a lower court’s decision to block it. A panel of three judges from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously upheld a preliminary injunction that a district court judge issued last year.

A panel of three judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit unanimously upheld a lower court decision that the law was “plainly unconstitutional.” Lawmakers in Louisiana passed the measure in 2024, which mandated the display of a printed poster with the Ten Commandments.
