A system is bringing in guaranteed cold air and clouds with windy conditions during the day. It will also bring a chance of shower and thunderstorms for most of the day, but a gap starts to open in the evening.

As we move into the weekend, the pattern is shifting and we will experience a long trend of sunny and dry weather. Spring weather often has big swings in the pattern alternating from sunny and mild, then back to cold with rain and snow. In the short term, we will be on the upswing with high pressure moving in and temperatures warming.

Two global weather phenomenon come to mind for most people called El Niño and La Niña. The El Niño event is spawned by warmer than average temperatures in the Central Pacific called the "Nino 3.4" region.

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Monday's stormy weather played out in many different chapters with impacts across the northern parts of California and Sacramento region. Light rain and snow moved through Northern California Monday morning, mostly just getting things wet in the valley and a dusting of snow for the Sierra. The rain stopped early in the morning but the snow continued and there was a winter storm warning until 11 p.m. Monday.
