Hydro and clean up crews continue the endless clean up job across the county following the ice storm. About four per cent of customers in Oro-Medonte remain without power Wednesday. “We’ve got the vast majority of our roads back open for two way traffic the only places where roads remain closed is where there are crews and we have hydro lines still down” says Randy Greelaw, Oro-Medote Mayor. Oro-Medote resident, John Atkinson, spent the day on his two acres trying to clean up.

The mass cleanup effort continues by the thousands of crews with boots on the ground through Simcoe Muskoka, particularly in the Orillia area, one of the most impacted areas by last weekend’s ice storm. Day six of the clean up for Hydro One workers started early in Ramara Township. Crews were given a free breakfast and lunch bags from Casino Rama.

The thinning ice on Midland Harbour was no match for the Canadian Coast Guard’s final ice breaking operation of the season on Wednesday. The CCGS Amundsen made its last pass through the harbour, drawing dozens of onlookers eager to witness the powerful vessel at work. "There was actually about 200 people here earlier today, and it’s a beautiful day, so why not come out," said Garnet Reid, who arrived to watch the ship in action.

It’s a busy time of year at local vehicle repair shops across the region. Staff at Bolt’s Auto located in Orillia say many drivers are falling victim to bad road conditions after a tough winter. “Things are so expensive, lately parts are no different than going to the grocery store...everything is just astronomically priced,” shared John Bolt of Bolt’s Auto Owner. Those bumps, crack’s and potholes are pretty much everywhere right across the county.

The federal election campaign is officially underway, and voters are prepared to cast their ballots. The candidates in Simcoe-Grey, the newly redesigned riding, are prepared to compete on election night. “Well I am ready yes… it’s the right time to have it. I think we need a strong man to contradict all the things that Trump does," said one local. “We are busy putting signs on lawns we are sending out door knocking teams,” shared Bren Munro the Liberal candidate for Simcoe-Grey.
