(InvestigateTV) — A drug you can find in your dentist’s office is also being used on the street for a brief but intense high. It’s called Nitrous Oxide, also known as Laughing Gas. It is used in about 70% of dental practices that require sedation. Dental professionals must undergo several hours of training long before the mask goes on. Experts say a legal loophole allows this drug to be sold in gas stations and corner shops across the country where it’s bought for an addictive high.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WVUE) - Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry on Tuesday (May 28) signed into law a new measure to regulate the sale of nitrous oxide, following a series of Fox 8 reports. The legislation, inspired by Fox 8′s Supplying a High stories, bans retail sales of the potentially deadly gas. Gov. Landry was joined by the bill’s author, Rep. Joe Stagni, and families affected by nitrous oxide abuse during the signing ceremony.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WVUE) - Following a series of Fox 8 reports highlighting the dangers and accessibility of nitrous oxide, a bill banning the sale of the gas to the general public was unanimously granted final passage by Louisiana’s Senate on Tuesday (May 14). The bill, authored by Rep. Joe Stagni (R-Kenner), now heads to Governor Jeff Landry’s desk. If signed, Louisiana would become the first state in the nation to enact such legislation.
