The first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs ended in dramatic fashion, with a pair of Game 7 classics over the weekend. Tocchet reportedly turned a big contract, perhaps as much as $25 million on a five-year deal, per CHEK’s Rick Dhaliwal. So the Canucks bucked up, but does that make the organization look any better? Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin need to pivot and look for another coach.

Apr 30 2025, 12:56 amRick Tocchet is gone and the search is on for the next head coach of the Vancouver Canucks. Jim Rutherford described Tocchet’s decision to leave the team as “disappointing news” at a Tuesday afternoon press conference at Rogers Arena. The 76-year-old president of hockey operations has seen just about everything during his Hall of Fame career, but he called this “a little bit surprising.”But the Canucks will push on and there will be no shortage of potential candidates.
