Apr 17 2025, 7:56 pmWhat could it be? Members of the media have been invited to a “major press conference” on Wednesday related to a “historic announcement in sport for Vancouver and British Columbia.”Representatives from the Province of British Columbia, the City of Vancouver, and “key stakeholders” will be in attendance. Someone with knowledge of the news told Daily Hive: “I promise it is big.”Cue the speculation. Does it involve the Vancouver Whitecaps?

Rick Tocchet’s future is one of the hot-button issues regarding the Vancouver Canucks as the 2024-25 season wraps up. The 61-year-old bench boss’ contract expires this summer, though Canucks management has indicated that they intend to exercise the one-year team option to keep him around. That would make Tocchet a lame-duck coach, though, providing unnecessary distractions for the team going forward. No surprise, then, that management is trying to get Tocchet signed to a new contract.

Edmonton Oilers playoff tickets went on sale to the general public this morning. It should come as no surprise that most of them have already been snapped up, but there are still unsold seats available for purchase. They’re not cheap though. We couldn’t find a single ticket available for under $230 at time of publishing. The cheapest seats tend to be available through the resale market, as season ticket holders get their seats at a more reasonable price than the general public.

So you’re telling me there’s a chance. The Calgary Flames have entered the final week of the NHL season, and yes, they do still have a chance in the chase for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And after a 5-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Sunday, the math is becoming clearer. With two games left, the Flames must pick up points in both of them to have a chance.

Brock Boeser said the quiet part out loud. He's unlikely to return to the #Canucks next season. If you've been paying attention to the comments from Rutherford and Allvin dating back to June, that shouldn't be a surprise. https://t.co/CgFHzzIsmp
