William Monk was named Washington County’s interim General Sessions Court Part I judge on Monday. Monk, who has served 21 years as an assistant prosecutor in the First Judicial District Attorney General’s Office, will fill a vacancy on the bench created by the upcoming retirement of Judge Robert Lincoln. He will be sworn into office in July. Washington County commissioners appointed Monk on Monday after whittling down the number of nominees for the position in three separate votes.

GOP leaders say the executive committee membership has been divided 6 to 6 since the party elected new officers earlier this year.
