BRISTOL, Va. — Bristol Community Health Center celebrated completion of its $4 million renovation and expansion project on Thursday, some five years after it began. The nonprofit center, located on Euclid Avenue, now occupies nearly twice its previous space, employs more providers and offers additional services, according to Bryan Haynes, CEO of Southwest Virginia Community Services.

Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Friday at 9:34 a.m., on Route 16 near the intersection with Old Prater Road in Smyth County. A Toyota Scion was travelling eastbound on Route 16 when it crossed the centerline. A Dodge Ram 2500 travelling westbound on Route 16 tried to avoid the Scion, but the Scion struck the Dodge Ram 2500 head-on, according to a written statement. The driver of the Scion died at the scene. Identification is still pending.

DAMASCUS, Va. — Last September, Deanna Wolfe and Leslie Sigmon escaped the floodwaters of Hurricane Helene with just the clothes they were wearing. On Thursday, each received the keys to new homes — constructed a few miles away from the Ralph Smith Mobile Home Park which was wiped out that day. The celebration was hosted by Trails to Recovery — a local nonprofit established to assist in the region’s recovery.
